Mount Fuji rises to 3,776 meters (12,388 feet) between Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures, the highest peak in Japan. It is an active volcano, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013 as Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration. Its most recent eruption, in 1707, opened the Hōei crater on the southeastern slope.
The curated map area is about 33 by 31 kilometers, centered on the summit. In the Contours preview, the cone reads as tight, nearly concentric rings that spread apart as the slopes ease toward the base, while the rougher hills near the edges of the frame break into irregular shapes.
