Oregon's landscape runs in north–south bands. The Coast Range rises behind the Pacific shore, the Willamette Valley lies between it and the Cascade Range, and east of the Cascades the land opens into high plateaus and desert basins, with the Blue and Wallowa mountains in the northeast. The Cascades carry a line of volcanoes, and Crater Lake fills the caldera of Mount Mazama.
Mount Hood is the highest point at 11,249 feet (3,429 m), and the Pacific Ocean is the lowest, at sea level. In the Ridgeline preview, the lines rise into sharp peaks along the Cascades and in the mountains of the northeast, and roll more gently across the plateaus and basins of the high desert.
