From GPX to STL in three steps

    Bring your route

    Export a GPX track from your GPS device or activity service and upload it in the creator. A GPX file describes the route; Printed Canyon adds the surrounding terrain. You can also start from a curated place.

  2. 02 / CUSTOMIZE

    Shape your landscape

    Choose the terrain model product. Adjust the model size, terrain extent, base shape and vertical exaggeration. Rotate the preview to inspect the route and the landscape around it before exporting.

  3. 03 / PRINT

    Download and slice

    Download STL or 3MF, open the file in your slicer, and check the scale and layer preview for your printer. You supply the printer or arrange printing with a service; we provide the digital model.

Keep the terrain, not just the line

A route alone shows where you went. A terrain model adds the ridges, valleys and climbs around it. Create a keepsake of a favorite hike, a long cycling route, or a memorable run. The highlighted track helps connect the shape of the landscape to your own experience.

For a readable print, start with a manageable area and a model size that fits your printer. Large routes can make small details harder to see. Vertical exaggeration can emphasize elevation changes, but preview the result and use your slicer to check the final print. Terrain detail depends on available elevation data and your selected settings.

Before you make your model

Is the GPX to STL converter free?

You can create and download a model for free. Printed Canyon uses pay-what-you-want pricing, so you can choose to contribute when downloading. A payment is optional.

Do I receive a physical 3D print?

No. You receive digital files. Print the model yourself or take it to a 3D-printing service. Materials, printing and shipping are not included.

Should I download STL or 3MF?

STL is a widely supported mesh format for slicing. 3MF is useful for compatible workflows, including multi-material printing. Choose a format your slicer supports and inspect the imported model before starting a print.

What if I do not have a GPX file?

Start with a curated place in the creator, or export a route from the activity service or GPS device you use. Export availability depends on that service and your access to the route.

Can I make a poster instead?

Yes. The creator also offers trail-art styles with image and PDF downloads. A poster is an alternative if you want to frame your route without using a 3D printer.
