Glaciers shaped most of Wisconsin, leaving moraines, drumlins and thousands of lakes, but the Driftless Area in the southwest escaped the most recent ice sheets and kept its steep ridges and deep valleys. The Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey divides the state into five geographic provinces: the Lake Superior Lowland, the Northern Highland, the Central Plain, the Western Upland, and the Eastern Ridges and Lowlands.
Timms Hill in Price County is the highest point at 1,951 feet (595 m), and Lake Michigan is the lowest at 579 feet (176 m).
