New York's high ground is in the Adirondacks, where Mount Marcy, the state's highest peak, reaches 5,344 feet (1,629 m); its lowest point is sea level on the Atlantic. The Catskills formed during the Acadian mountain-building event, and Long Island, at the other end of the state, is built from glacial moraines and outwash.
