Montana's name comes from the Spanish word for mountain, but its mountains are concentrated in the west. The Rocky Mountains, including Glacier National Park and the ranges along the Continental Divide, fill the western part of the state, and the Great Plains cover the rest, broken by isolated ranges such as the Little Belt, Crazy and Bears Paw mountains.
Granite Peak in the Beartooth Mountains is the highest point at 12,807 feet (3,904 m), and the Kootenai River at the Idaho line is the lowest at 1,800 feet (549 m).
