Georgia is usually divided into five physiographic provinces. The Blue Ridge, the Valley and Ridge and a small corner of the Appalachian Plateau share the north, and the rolling Piedmont covers the middle of the state. Below the Fall Line, which runs roughly through Columbus, Macon and Augusta, the Coastal Plain covers more than half of Georgia.
Brasstown Bald in the Blue Ridge is the highest point at 4,784 feet (1,458 m), and the Atlantic Ocean is the lowest, at sea level. In the Strata preview, the Blue Ridge rises as pale peaks along the northern border, and the sandstone bands darken to deep red across the Coastal Plain.
