Oklahoma slopes from northwest to southeast. The Panhandle sits on the High Plains, and the land falls across the plains of the center toward the Ozark Plateau in the northeast and the Ouachita Mountains in the southeast. The Wichita and Arbuckle mountains rise as isolated uplifts in the southwest and south-central parts of the state.
Black Mesa, at the western tip of the Panhandle, is the highest point at 4,975 feet (1,516 m), and the Little River in McCurtain County is the lowest at 289 feet (88 m).
