Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, is the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,340 feet). It is a triple volcano: Kibo, the central and youngest cone, holds the summit, with Shira to the west and Mawenzi to the east. The IUCN describes the massif as standing in isolation above the surrounding plains, rising 4,877 meters above them.
