Mount Everest stands on the border between Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. On December 8, 2020, the two countries jointly announced its height as 8,848.86 meters (29,031.69 feet). According to NASA, glaciers have carved the summit into a huge three-sided pyramid, and the South Col links it to its neighbor Lhotse.
The curated map area covers about 19 by 20 kilometers around the summit, including Lhotse. The Ridgeline preview is rotated 180°, so it looks south from the Tibetan side: the summit pyramid rises through the middle of the poster, with lower ridges stacked in front of it.
The preview is generated from public global elevation data, so it shows the shape of the massif rather than the surveyed summit height. The creator opens at the default rotation of 0°, a view from the Nepal side; set it to 180° to match, or switch to Contours or Strata and change the colors and title.
